Fort Wayne Metals Mobilizes Campus Cleanup, Sustainable Solutions for Earth Day and Beyond
Fort Wayne Metals employees spent April 22 outside, cleaning up any trash around buildings, clearing and planting wildflower seeds along the walking trail, and prepping their community garden. In addition, employees could take part in a plant exchange, seed giveaway, and aluminum can recycling competition—all efforts planned in celebration of Earth Day.
“It’s special that we get this opportunity to beautify our space, put down pollinator seeds, and work together as a team—we appreciate Fort Wayne Metals’ support,” said Senior Manager of Environmental Health and Safety Kimberly Sayers. “What we’re doing today also supports our commitment to wellness. As we clean up the trail in support of the environment, we know that it is enabling our people to take short, outdoor wellness walks.”
Though these activities are centered on a single day, Fort Wayne Metals’ Environmental Health, Safety, and Sustainability team and its people are committed to efforts that minimize our footprint on the environment year in and year out.
Fort Wayne Metals recycles more than 10,000 pounds monthly, composts 1,000 pounds monthly in our production buildings, and invested to bring 10 electrical vehicle chargers to its campus. While proud of these efforts, the organization continues to be committed to learning new sustainability solutions and adjusting along the way to make our planet healthier and have a positive impact on the environment in which we live and work.
