Fort Wayne Metals Advanced Materials Development, LLC, located in Columbia City, is expanding its operations and adding 15 new jobs.
Located at 2300 E. Cardinal Drive in Gateway Park in Columbia City, Advanced Materials Development, LLC is a subsidiary of Fort Wayne Metals Research Products Corp. The company is a global leader in manufacturing precision wire and related components for use in life-saving medical devices and other critical applications. In addition to its facilities in North America, the company also has locations around the globe throughout Asia, Central America and Europe.
The company plans to invest $12 million in new equipment at the facility to expand its melting capacity for producing stainless steel, nickel, cobalt, nitinol and titanium alloys, and composite materials. This will help the company develop materials for various wire forms with improved characteristics such as higher corrosion resistance, strength, fatigue resistance and wear resistance for the medical device industry.
“This expansion will help fuel the growth of our entire company,” states Jeff Slater, General Manager of Fort Wayne Metals Advanced Materials Development. “The materials we produce here in Columbia City support the growth of our entire operation. Columbia City should be proud of the fact that it helps lay the ground work for countless lifesaving innovations in the medical device industry.”
Advanced Materials Development, LLC currently employs 41 people, and will add 15 additional high-wage jobs.
“This is just one more example of our local manufacturers competing in a global market to create world-class products,” said Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) President Jon Myers.
The Whitley County Council approved a 10-year tax abatement in support of the project, at the request of the Whitley County EDC.
“We are pleased to support Advanced Materials Development, LLC on this project. We know they are creating career opportunities that will attract young people to our community,” said Whitley County Council President John Barrett.
